The Truth About Minimum Wage

Why do Republicans Oppose the Minimum Wage?

I decided to do a podcast on the subject of the minimum wage because of how the Democrats are trying to get it passed through the Covid-19 bill.  It seems a lot of people don’t quite understand the truth behind why increasing the minimum wage is a bad idea, and it goes beyond mere economics.

I didn’t want to simply give my opinion of why the left says conservatives oppose a minimum wage hike, so I found a leftist site that gave the top 5 reasons Republicans oppose the increase.  The author claims to be writing satire, but his article reads more like the talking points of Democrats and the media, so I think it’s safe to say he was being honest.  I do know there was nothing funny about the article.

Here are the top 5 reasons:

  1. They’re A-holes
  2. Raising the minimum wage might help reduce crime and violence
  3. Raising the minimum wage might keep people off welfare and other social assistance programs
  4. Raising the minimum wage is gateway social policy
  5. Hitler raised the minimum wage too!

Listen to the podcast to hear my take on this list of reasons, but I don’t want to get bogged down on what somebody else wrote.  Let’s talk about the truth of how the left and the right see the American people.

If you look at the Democratic Platform and how leftists address Americans, they usually call us workers.  That will sound familiar to anyone familiar with Karl Marx and the Communist Manifesto.  To the left, that’s how they see people, whereas the right tends to see people as individuals with rights that are husbands, wives, fathers, and mothers.  People are not workers, they’re people!

It’s great if you work because you love your job, but people do not work for the sake of working – they work so that they might enjoy the fruit of their labor.  They work so that they might not only support their family but so that they can be a family.

The Democrats, with dreams of a socialist utopia, forget that in their march towards socialism they are leaving families in the dust as they try to dismantle this nation so they can then rebuild it into a worker’s paradise.  In the meantime, those workers they say they care so much about, are worried more about their families and the future of their children than they are about their job.

So, why do Republicans oppose increasing the minimum wage?  Because we care more about families than we do building a worker’s paradise.
